Some of my favorite memories from St. Patrick’s Day actually come from the early years.

Back then our participation in the parade started in the most simple way imaginable. We dressed up, joined the parade route, and pulled our restroom trailer behind us while marching with the crowd.

It was not fancy. It was not elaborate. But it was fun. And Savannah is a city that appreciates a good sense of humor.

Before long we started adding a little more creativity to the experience. Decorations became more elaborate. Costumes became more theatrical. Our team began appearing as kings, queens, and knights proudly marching through the parade.

And of course, no Royal Restrooms parade appearance would be complete without our toilet plunger scepters.

What started as a lighthearted idea quickly became something people began to recognize each year. Crowds would cheer, laugh, and wave as our group made its way down the parade route. The costumes, the decorations, and the playful spirit became a small but memorable part of the parade’s atmosphere.

For more than 15 parades, Royal Restrooms proudly marched through the streets of Savannah, celebrating alongside the community and enjoying every moment of the experience.

Looking back, those moments remind me why events like this matter so much. They bring people together. They create stories. And they give communities something to share year after year.

Continuing the Celebration, Even When Not on the Route

This year, due to unforeseen circumstances, Royal Restrooms will not be marching in the parade.

I will admit that stepping away from the parade route feels a little strange after being part of it for so many years. There is something special about standing on those streets, hearing the bands, seeing the crowds, and feeling the energy of Savannah celebrating together.

But while we may not be marching this year, our support for the celebration remains just as strong.

Our team will still be working behind the scenes providing the luxury portable restroom trailers that help support the many festivities taking place throughout the city. From gatherings along River Street to community events throughout Savannah, we remain proud to contribute to the experience that visitors and locals look forward to every year.

Sometimes the most important roles at large events are the ones people do not immediately see.

And that is perfectly fine with us.

Looking Ahead to the Return of the Royal Parade Tradition

St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah is built on tradition. And traditions always find a way of returning.

Next year we fully hope to return to the parade route once again in full celebration. The costumes will come back. The decorations will shine. And our crew of kings, queens, and knights will once again march proudly through Savannah’s historic streets.

You can expect the plunger scepters to be raised high once again.

You can expect the crowd interactions that make Savannah so special.

And most of all, you can expect the same spirit of celebration that has always defined our participation in the parade.
